Thanks for the comments. There is no way of ending the selfie obession but there are some ways to make it safer.

I think the idea of selfie seats is a good one.

As the Police Minister says, you can't rope off everything, people need common sense. Its just hard when people will do anything to acheive fame and copy what others do.

For you as a cilmber you are doing it for your own enjoyment and experience and not trying to get famous, so it is a little different in my opinion.
