Yeah, this is not uncommon and the consumer generally doesnt know.

Many years ago I was looking to buy an Audi A3. A friend told me to get a VW Gulf instead. Same company, made in the very same factory and almost indentical parts.

Yet the VW was 25% cheaper due to the Audi brand being perceived as higher quality.
